New Monoclonal Antibodies to Cholera Toxin
Posted: 04/22/2011
Cholera is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholera. Infection is transmitted by ingestion of contaminated water or food. It causes severe and debilitating diarrhea which can be life-threatening especially in the very young. The symptoms of cholera are due to the production of cholera toxin during bacterial growth. The B subunit of this toxin is found in high frequency in patients’ stools.
ViroStat has just released three new monoclonal antibodies to the B subunit of cholera toxin. ELISA pairing data is available for these tools which may aid in the rapid detection of this disease.
